Mealtime wars have just begun! (16 months)

Mama bought me 3 new Barney DVDs ...
to add on to my collection. She said all these originals cost her a "bomb", can buy her one handbag... (yah like real) She wants me to "repay" her next time - one DVD/VCD for one handbag! Yah right!!
Favourite pasttime - watching TV together

Mmmm oh yes... not just sleeping problem, I have makan problem as well... haha!

Mama always tell people I very "pai gor" (difficult to take care of), "mai jia mai koon" (don't wana eat don't wana sleep) and not interested in learning. Whenever she opens a book, I closes it before she can even read one sentence. When she begins humming ABC, I will simply walk away. Gosh... And? I am only interested in 1 thing - watching BARNEY. Mama has long given up being a "good" parent, she always let me sit in front of the TV watching Barney as she tries to slip a spoonful of food into my mouth. Hey, thats the only way I will eat some, when I am so engrossed in that purple dinosaur. But these days, even this tactic can sometimes fail... My fat mummy is at wits end. She's so frustrated at times that she will cry (yah yah... those pregnancy hormones). Aiyo... Mummy, please... please relax for baby's sake! See what the expert says :

"So many things are shifting this month that it's hard to keep up! Along with the emergence of your 16-month-old's traits and independence they are realizing that they have likes and dislikes (which are subject to change without prior notice) and want you to be the first to know about it. Don't be surprised when the baked potatoes or pasta come flying across the table and all they want to eat are chicken and hotdogs at every meal. They are learning to express themselves now and will not be shy about it so get ready for a wobbly road ahead. Just keep in mind that this is a passing stage, and that this too shall pass like everything else has. Take a few deep flushing out breaths, and remember they are only little one."

Avoid mealtime wars
It's quite normal that your child at this age is extremely picky and inconsistency with food is just one area that you will begin to see most often. Your child may begin to become very expressive regarding foods that they do not like. This "picky eater" phase can be expected to begin when their skill to walk kicks in and hardly ever leaves before their second birthday. Be creative in meal planning and offer variety of nutritious food they can choose from, and your best bet to have a peaceful mealtime is to try and make the overall experience as relaxing as possible. The more stressed you are, the more stressed and uncooperative your child will be.
